Calculation of page hits is based on data collected by Statcounter.com. A page hit (also referred to as a page load) is defined as an initial and follow-up visit to a web page. It is not an indication of the number of people who have visited a site but rather the number of times the site has been visited.

On the Dubai Marina and MAG 218 Communities' websites "Visits to Site" is displayed in the sidebar of each page. This involves a formula designed to calculate multiple visits within a single session as a single visit. This results in a more conservative figure which represents a compromise between recording the number of unique individuals who have visited the site and the number of times the page has been viewed.

For precise data regarding page loads the Visits to Site link toward the bottom of the sidebar may be clicked on to view the precise data for that page. This data will include totals for

  • page loads
  • unique visitors
  • first time visitors
  • return visitors
within a given day, week, month or any specified time period.

Charts similar to the one below are also displayed in addition to a myraid of other data.

Page Load (or Page Hits) data may be considered the most useful with regard to measuring ad exposure.

That is, it is usually not the single viewing of an ad that results in the ad having an impact, but repeated viewing. Page loads more than any other statistic measures the repeated viewing of a page and its contents, including ads.

Page load and other data can be intentionally manipulated or skewed inadvertantly. For example, repeated viewing of pages by the advertiser to monitor page hit data or for other purposes can result in inflated statistics. To avoid such problems, selected IP addresses can be blocked so that page loads from these sources will not be recorded. Page load data can also be monitored to determine from which IP addresses they originate and patterns of data manipulation can be observed.
